(Cherokee County July 12, 2022) — On July 7, 2022, Billy Mitchell, an 82-yeer-old man from Dawson, was tragically killed after his Ford Taurus was hit by a cement mixer truck.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred around 1:12 p.m. on Alabama 68 near Cherokee County 107, approximately two miles west of Gaylesville.

Both drivers were taken to Atrium Floyd Hospital in Rome, Ga., where Mitchell died from his injuries.

ALEA continues to investigate the crash.
