In short: Alabama residents who were exposed to Roundup — farmers, landscapers, groundskeepers, and home gardeners — and later diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma may qualify to file a lawsuit against Bayer/Monsanto. Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate, is classified a probable human carcinogen by the WHO. Bayer has already paid roughly $11 billion across 100,000+ claims, and the U.S. Supreme Court heard a key appeal (Monsanto v. Durnell) in April 2026. Alabama’s deadline is generally two years from discovery. Fob James Law Firm works on contingency (33.33–40%) — no fee unless we win. Call 205-407-6009.

The Roundup lawsuit in Alabama is about the chemicals in the popular weedkiller causing cancer. If you were exposed to Roundup and diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or leukemia, the Birmingham, Alabama Roundup lawyers at Fob James Law Firm want to help you get justice.

Monsanto’s Roundup is among the most commonly used herbicides in the world. Many countries have banned the active ingredient, glyphosate, because it is a known carcinogen that causes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other cancers.

The crux of the Roundup lawsuit is that companies like Monsanto manufactured and profited from selling Roundup for decades despite knowing the risks associated with glyphosate. To top it off, Monsanto failed to warn consumers and downplayed the danger of Roundup exposure.

If you are suffering from cancer caused by Roundup, do not delay. Time is running out to file a Roundup claim.

Contact Fob James Law Firm today for a free consultation with an experienced Alabama Roundup lawsuit lawyer. Our biggest concern is making sure you get the justice and the compensation that you deserve.

⚖️ June 2026 Update: U.S. Supreme Court to Rule on Roundup

On April 27, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument in Monsanto Company v. Durnell, a case that asks whether federal pesticide law (FIFRA) blocks state “failure-to-warn” lawsuits when the EPA never required a cancer warning. A decision is expected by the end of the Court’s term in late June 2026. The ruling could reshape the Roundup litigation nationwide — but Alabama claims remain active now, and the two-year filing deadline still applies. If you were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after Roundup exposure, do not wait to have your claim evaluated.

Common Questions About the Alabama Roundup Lawsuit (FAQ)

What is Roundup?

Roundup is the brand name of a common herbicide used to kill weeds that compete with agricultural crops. The Monsanto Company makes Roundup. Bayer acquired the Monsanto Company in 2018.

The active ingredient of Roundup is the isopropylamine salt of glyphosate. This is the most widely used herbicide in the United States. Roughly 185 million pounds of Roundup are used annually, and it remains the most widely used herbicide in the United States and worldwide.

Roundup is marketed to consumers by Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. Other commercial brand names of glyphosate-based products include Ortho GroundClear, RM43 Total Vegetation Control, Compare-N-Save Concentrate Grass and Weed Killer, Dow Rodeo Herbicide, and Ranger Pro Herbicide.

If you have been exposed to Roundup, contact the Monsanto attorneys at Fob James Law Firm today for a free consultation.

How Do I Become Exposed To Roundup?

Roundup exposure is common because of how many people use the weed killer. Commercial farmers use Roundup in their fields, consumers use it regularly to kill weeds in their flowerbeds, and landscapers and golf courses depend on it to create pristine environments.

As a result, those who work as landscapers, on golf courses, or on commercial farms are likely most at-risk. Exposure to Roundup often occurs in the following ways:

  • Getting it on your skin while spraying
  • Getting it on your skin from touching wet crops
  • Breathing it in while spraying
  • Swallowing accidentally while spraying
  • Eating, drinking, or smoking after applying while wet product is on your hands

What Type of Cancer Is Caused by Roundup?

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) is the most common cancer caused by Roundup. It is a cancer affecting the immune system. NHL occurs when the body produces excessive abnormal lymphocytes, which is a form of white blood cell.

Roundup can also cause other lymphatic cancers such as mantle cell lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, small lymphocytic lymphoma, Burkitt lymphoma, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, hairy cell lymphoma, and T-cell lymphoma.

If you are unsure your cancer is caused by Roundup, do not assume it is unrelated. An experienced Alabama Roundup lawyer at Fob James Law Firm can evaluate your situation at no charge.

How Does Roundup Cause Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?

Roundup is made with glyphosate, the most-used agricultural chemical ever. Some 300 million pounds of glyphosate are used on crops worldwide each year.

Glyphosate works by inhibiting a specific enzyme required for plant growth. Glyphosate has been shown to be carcinogenic, and thus cause cancer. Evidence suggests that glyphosate exposure is linked to chromosomal and DNA damage in human cells, as well as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other types of hematopoietic (blood cell-related) cancers.

What Are The Signs Of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?

According to the Mayo Clinic, signs of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma include:

  • Swollen lymph nodes in your neck, armpits, or groin
  • Abdominal pain or swelling
  • Chest pain, coughing, or trouble breathing
  • Persistent fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Unexplained weight loss

Who Is Being Sued In The Roundup Lawsuit?

Bayer, which acquired Monsanto in 2018, produces and markets Roundup and has assumed Monsanto’s liabilities. Bayer/Monsanto has faced more than 100,000 Roundup cancer claims.

Bayer has resolved roughly 100,000 of those claims through settlements totaling approximately $11 billion, but tens of thousands of cases remain pending in federal and state courts, and victims continue to file new lawsuits as of 2026.

Contact a top-rated Alabama Roundup lawyer to discuss your claim and which companies you can sue.

Who Qualifies for the Roundup Lawsuit in Alabama?

An Alabama resident who was exposed to Roundup and diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or another lymphatic cancer may be eligible to take legal action against the manufacturer of Roundup.

Below are groups of individuals commonly exposed to Roundup:

  • Farmers and their employees
  • Crop dusters
  • Golf course applicators
  • Landscapers and their employees
  • Gardeners

If you meet these criteria, you may have a case and should contact an Alabama Roundup Lawyer at Fob James Law Firm.

What Can I Recover From a Roundup Lawsuit in Alabama?

Every case is unique, but people who file lawsuits can potentially recover money for some of the following damages:

  • Past and future medical bills (including medication, hospital stays, and in-home care)
  • Pain and suffering, including mental anguish
  • Psychological damage
  • Lost wages
  • Loss of earning capacity
  • Funeral expenses (in the event of a loved one’s death)
  • The loss of enjoyment of life
  • Any past and future costs associated with a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis

How Long Do I Have To File A Roundup Lawsuit In Alabama?

Every state is different, so make sure you consult with an attorney before assuming how long you have to file a lawsuit.

In Alabama, you generally have two years from the date you discovered (or reasonably should have discovered) your Roundup-related injury to file a lawsuit, under Ala. Code § 6-2-38.

What Are the Attorney Fees for the Roundup Lawsuit?

Fob James Law Firm operates on the contingency-fee basis. This means we only get paid a percentage of the recovery if we successfully resolve your case.

Our fees come out of a favorable settlement or jury award, not out of your pocket. Importantly, if we do not obtain a recovery then you owe us nothing. Fob James Law Firm charges Roundup lawsuit clients a 33.33% to 40% contingency fee.

When Will the Roundup Lawsuit Be Settled?

Bayer has already settled roughly 100,000 Roundup lawsuits, paying out approximately $11 billion — but tens of thousands of claims remain pending nationwide, and new cases continue to be filed. The timing of any broader resolution now hinges heavily on the U.S. Supreme Court.

In Monsanto Company v. Durnell, argued on April 27, 2026, the Court will decide whether federal law preempts state failure-to-warn claims. A decision is expected by the end of June 2026. If Bayer loses, it will face continued exposure to large jury verdicts and stronger pressure to fund a global settlement. If Bayer wins, the company may try to use the ruling to limit or dismiss many pending claims. Either way, Alabama residents with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma should have their claims evaluated now, because the two-year filing deadline continues to run regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision.

What Is the Average Roundup Settlement in Alabama?

There is no single “average” Roundup settlement, because payouts vary widely based on the strength of each case. Broadly, Roundup resolutions have fallen into two categories:

  • Settlements: Through Bayer’s settlement program, individual payouts have generally ranged from the low tens of thousands of dollars up to several hundred thousand dollars, depending on exposure history, diagnosis, severity, and age.
  • Jury verdicts: Cases that go to trial and win have produced dramatically larger awards — including verdicts of $78 million, $175 million, $611 million, and even a $2.1 billion verdict in Georgia (later reduced) — because juries have repeatedly found that Monsanto failed to warn consumers.

The value of any individual Alabama case depends on the level and duration of Roundup exposure, the type and stage of cancer, the cost of treatment, lost income, and whether punitive damages are available. Our attorneys provide a free, no-obligation evaluation of your specific claim.

The Risk Of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Is Real

More than 25 countries and some jurisdictions in the U.S. have banned or restricted the use of Roundup’s active ingredient glyphosate due to its carcinogenic effects.

Glyphosate is on California’s list of cancer-causing agents, while the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer dubbed it a “probable human carcinogen.”

In addition, a review by the University of Washington found that agricultural professionals highly exposed to glyphosate had a 41% higher risk of contracting non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma than those with low or no exposure.

June 2026 – Supreme Court Decision Expected Any Day in Monsanto v. Durnell

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to issue its decision in Monsanto Company v. Durnell before its term ends in late June 2026. The ruling will resolve whether the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) preempts state failure-to-warn claims where the EPA never mandated a cancer warning — the central legal question running through nearly every Roundup case. A ruling for Bayer could limit or bar many state failure-to-warn claims; a ruling for the plaintiff would clear the way for the litigation to continue and intensify pressure on Bayer to reach a global settlement. We will update this page as soon as the decision is released.

April 27, 2026 – U.S. Supreme Court Hears Oral Argument

The Supreme Court heard roughly 75 minutes of oral argument in Monsanto Company v. Durnell. The justices wrestled with FIFRA’s text and the EPA’s authority over Roundup labels, and the questioning crossed ideological lines — Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Gorsuch joined Justice Jackson in pressing Bayer’s position. The U.S. Solicitor General had filed a brief supporting Monsanto. The underlying case arose from a $1.25 million Missouri verdict to John Durnell, a gardener who developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after years of Roundup use. A decision is expected by the end of June 2026.

January 16, 2026 – U.S. Supreme Court Agrees to Review Bayer’s Appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to review Bayer’s effort to limit Roundup cancer lawsuits, taking up the question of whether federal pesticide law should preempt state failure-to-warn claims. Granting review was a procedural win for Bayer, but the outcome remains undecided — and current Roundup claims remain active as courts continue to evaluate Bayer’s duty to warn consumers.

November 19, 2025 – Bayer Withdraws Multiple Appeals

Bayer has withdrawn multiple appeals across the country. Most notably, Bayer withdrew its appeal in the $2.065 billion verdict in Georgia. It also withdrew three appeals of rulings from the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. This may be a sign that Bayer will try to settle pending cases set for trial.

November 10, 2025 – Monsanto $185 Million Verdict Reinstated

A unanimous decision by the Washington Supreme Court reinstated a $185 million verdict against Monsanto (a unit of Bayer AG) in a case involving PCB contamination at a Washington state school. The court ruled that Missouri law governs because Monsanto made most of its PCB decisions in Missouri, and reinstated the verdict.

October 7, 2025 – Missouri Supreme Court Declines Review of $611M Verdict

The Missouri Supreme Court refused to take up Bayer’s appeal of a verdict awarding approximately $611 million to three plaintiffs, effectively affirming the lower appellate court’s decision.

October 1, 2025 – Investor-Shareholder Settlement Cleared for Final Approval

Bayer is seeking final court approval of a $38 million settlement resolving claims that it misled shareholders about Roundup-related liability disclosures.

September 8, 2025 – Status of the Roundup Litigation

The Roundup cancer lawsuits remain active in both federal and state courts. Plaintiffs allege that glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, caused non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and that Bayer/Monsanto failed to warn users. Thousands of cases are still pending, and individuals diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after using Roundup may still qualify to file.

August 4, 2025 – Bayer Adds One Billion Dollars to Litigation Reserve

Bayer added one billion dollars to its litigation reserve. This could mean Bayer is planning to resolve Roundup lawsuits — or simply replenishing reserves to continue litigating and paying bellwether verdicts.

August 3, 2025 – Senator Booker Introduces Pesticide Injury Accountability Act

Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) introduced legislation to hold pesticide manufacturers responsible for harm caused by toxic products. The bill would amend FIFRA to create a federal right of action for anyone harmed by a toxic pesticide, allowing victims to circumvent restrictive state laws by filing in federal court.

July 1, 2025 – Settlement Reached During Roundup Bellwether Trial

The bellwether case Grantges v. Monsanto in St. Louis County Circuit Court settled right before closing argument, suggesting Monsanto was worried about another large jury verdict. The terms are not public.

June 9, 2025 – Missouri Appellate Court Upholds $611 Million Verdict

A Missouri appellate court upheld a $611 million verdict against Bayer/Monsanto. As losses accumulate, pressure on Bayer to settle grows.

May 15, 2025 – Bayer Exploring Bankruptcy to Escape Roundup Liability

Bayer hired Latham & Watkins to explore filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy to mitigate Roundup liability. Bankruptcy could pause the litigation and seek a resolution through the bankruptcy court.

May 8, 2025 – Pennsylvania Superior Court Affirms $175 Million Verdict

A Philadelphia jury awarded $175 million to Ernest Caranci in October 2023, finding Roundup caused his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The Superior Court affirmed the verdict, meaning Bayer must pay the amount plus interest.

April 7, 2025 – Bayer Petitions U.S. Supreme Court a Third Time

Bayer announced it was petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court a third time to limit liability for Roundup, arguing claimants should not be able to sue under state law for failure to warn because the EPA found no cancer risk. (The Court granted review in January 2026 in the Durnell case.)

March 24, 2025 – Georgia Jury Awards $2.1 Billion Verdict

A Georgia jury awarded nearly $2.1 billion to a man diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after Roundup exposure — $65 million compensatory and $2 billion punitive. The punitive award reflected the jury’s view that Monsanto’s failure to warn rose to gross negligence. (Later reduced; Bayer ultimately withdrew its appeal.)

February 9, 2025 – Study Suggests Glyphosate Reduces Gestational Birth Weight

A study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests glyphosate has significantly reduced average birthweight and gestational length among babies in disadvantaged groups, noting glyphosate levels rose 750% in the 20 years after genetically modified seeds were introduced.

January 14, 2025 – Washington State Jury Hits Bayer with $100 Million Verdict

A Washington jury returned a verdict of $100 million for four plaintiffs sickened by PCBs from light fixtures at a Seattle-area school. While not a Roundup case, it reflects jurors’ willingness to award large verdicts against Monsanto/Bayer in toxic-exposure cases.

December 3, 2024 – Alabama Widow Files Roundup Lawsuit On Behalf of Husband

Helen Chandler, a widow from Alabama, filed a lawsuit against Monsanto on behalf of her late husband, who died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The lawsuit alleges Monsanto knew of the glyphosate-cancer link since the 1980s but underreported the risks.

October 10, 2024 – Jury in Philadelphia Awards $78 Million

A Philadelphia jury awarded $78 million to a man who developed cancer after Roundup exposure, finding for the plaintiff on both failure-to-warn and design-defect claims.

March 10, 2024 – Alabama Farmer Files Roundup Lawsuit

An Alabama farmer filed a lawsuit against Monsanto alleging Roundup caused his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The case was filed in the MDL court; if not resolved through the MDL, it will transfer back to federal court in Alabama.

February 1, 2024 – Roundup Lawsuit Victory for Plaintiffs

A Philadelphia jury awarded $2.25 billion to a man diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (later reduced on appeal) — the second billion-dollar-plus verdict in a row at the time, putting immense pressure on Bayer to resolve remaining cases.
