(Birmingham, Alabama – June 21, 2024) — A 15-year old girl was tragically killed when she was shot at an apartment complex in Birmingham.

According to Birmingham police Chief Scott Thurmond, 27-year-old Otis Lee Montgomery III fired his gun into the Park Place apartment complex on 25th Street North.

Cornelia Rose Lathan was killed in the shooting. Her brother was shot in the leg and transported to Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Montgomery was the ex-boyfriend of Lathan’s mother. He is now in police custody.

A GoFundMe page has been setup to help raise money for the family.
