(Huntsville, Alabama July 3, 2022) – On Saturday morning July 2, 2022, three cars were involved in a major car accident that temporarily closed I-565.

According to the Huntsville police department, in the first vehicle, one pediatric patient was pronounced dead at the scene, and EMS took four more and an adult driver to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Services all in serious condition.

In the second vehicle, three people were injured and taken to local hospitals.

The status of the driver and passengers in the third vehicle are unknown at this time.

Huntsville PD believe the wreck may have happened when a vehicle on the shoulder attempted to merge back onto the interstate.

The interstate was reopened shortly after 11:15 a.m.

The crash is currently under investigation and the names of the victims have not been released.
