(Tuscaloosa, Alabama November 20, 2021) — On Friday afternoon, November 19, 2021, an elderly couple was fatally injured in Tuscaloosa County when their 2005 Scion was struck by a 2015 Kenworth tractor trailer.

Frank Stanley Wharton, 87, and Mildred Wharton, 84, both from Vernon, were pronounced dead on the scene. The wreck occurred on Alabama Highway 171 near the eight mile marker and approximately eight miles north of Northport’s city limits. The driver of the truck was a 24-year old man from Fayette, AL.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is currently investigating the crash.
