(Athens, Alabama July 6, 2022) — Josue Velasquez, a 13-year old from Athens, Alabama, was tragically killed after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle.
According to the Athens Police Department, Velasquez was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 72 just west of the Hines Street intersection near Brownsferry Street. The crash occurred around 11:53 p.m.
Velasquez was an upcoming eighth-grader at Athens Middle School.
Athens PD continues to investigate the crash. The driver of the vehicle has not been identified.
